What Is Your Name?

Brenda W.

What is your occupation?

I am a special education teacher. I teach students in first and second grade and I love my job!

How was your body before Trevor Kashey Nutrition?

My body before TKN was 42 pounds heavier and very unhealthy. I did not exercise much because it was very difficult and did not feel good.

How did that (state of being) make you feel?

This state of being made me feel exhausted, defeated, and unhappy. I did not want to go places or do things. I was embarrassed that I had gained so much weight again and tried to stay away from people.

What were you unable to do that you wished you could do?

I was unable to exercise, even walking was difficult. I wouldn’t let myself interact with people. I avoided parties, our school boot camp, and stayed by myself. My husband would ask me to go meet with friends and I would say that I wasn’t feeling well.

During that time, how did your current state of being affect those around you?

This state of being affected by my family because they were worried about me. My son told me he would not go and buy me junk food anymore (he is 18). My husband was worried about me and would try to help by offering suggestions of how to lose weight but it just made me angry. At work, my assistants recently told me that I seem like a completely different person now and that they didn’t know me before. I wasn’t letting people in.

How did you hear about Trevor Kashey Nutrition?

I heard about Trevor Kashey Nutrition from Vera S. She told me that everyone can benefit from having a coach, that she had a coach. When she posted the TKN challenge I decided to jump in and see if I would like this type of program.

What were your doubts and fears before starting the program?

I had lots of doubts about starting the program. Would it be like my other attempts? Lose weight and regain it within 6 months? Would I enjoy talking to a coach weekly? Sending photos in revealing clothes weekly? I was afraid to put myself out there in such an exposed way. I was afraid I would fail.

What made you say YES anyways?

I said yes anyway because the people from the support team were so kind and positive. They were not pushy and I did not feel like they were just trying to “sell” the program. I said yes because it felt right.

Where is your body/mind now?

Now my mind is thinking straight and I am not playing stupid games with myself. I am honest, I do not hide from the daily results, and I can look at my weight and food intake from a more scientific view. It is data that helps me move forward. I am not defined by the numbers on the scale. I have lost 42 pounds so far and have at least 60 more to go. I am feeling more confident in my body and have started to build muscle again. I feel good. The food I am eating tastes good and leaves me feeling satisfied.

I have lost 42 pounds so far and have at least 60 more to go. I am feeling more confident in my body and have started to build muscle again. I feel good.

How does that make you feel?

I feel lighter….mentally and physically. I do not feel stressed about weight, food, or exercise. Bring it on, I got this! I enjoy food and exercise again.

What are you able to do now that you were not able to do before?

Now I am in control of my emotions and my food choices. I am not sneaking food to self medicate; I can and do deal with my feelings. I can exercise without feeling exhausted and I am enjoying the strength my body is gaining. I can go places and not feel self-conscious.

What positive impact did that have on others around you that you might not have expected?

This has had a positive impact on the people around me. My husband has his way of eating to lose weight but since I started this challenge he has started tracking his food regularly and measuring (or asking me how much it is and I measure it!). He has told people that this is helping him to make better food choices. I’ve been surprised at the comments I’ve received on social media for the homework that I’ve done for the challenge. People I did not expect have said thank you this helps me thank you I need to remember this. It has been eye-opening to me in that so many people struggle in their way with making healthy decisions consistently.

What would you tell someone who is reading this right now and is unsure about taking the next step?

I would tell someone unsure about making this step to message me or other clients in the program. We can answer questions and we all become a family, we support each other. I would say just make the first appointment and talk to the TKN support staff. They will help you without pushing you into a decision. You can always so no but why would you?

How likely are you to recommend TKN to a friend?

I would and have recommended TKN to my friends and family. It is a program that can help anyone because the program is designed around what will help you the most, it is not a cookie-cutter program. I 100% recommend TKN to everyone!

About Leticia King

Leticia King has worked with TKN since 2019. Previously she worked with the CUNY Center for Educational Studies interviewing, examining, and telling the stories of students and teachers to help fund and improve programs designed to mitigate the education gap between low and high-income students in New York City.

Leticia enjoys thought-provoking questions and always strives towards personal betterment. Despite changing her career path a number of times in her short 28 years she doesn’t look at those experiences as a deviation from her current path but meaningful epochs in her story. In a world of cynics, Leticia believes that finding good is the best coping and survival skill one can develop; and she sees TKN as a rare community of positive, uplifting, and sincere people.
